On The Golf Course

Notice **Summer Green Aerification Cancelled – No Interruption in Play**

You have got to come out in the month of August and see the course in absolutely top notch condition. West Seattle has cancelled its summer aerification so that we may present the course on a pedestal the entire summer. Thank you to our superintendent John Price and his staff for having so much pride in your work. It is easy to see why Golf Magazine said, “West Seattle is one of the country’s best urban municipals. If you are having difficulty getting a tee time, I can almost guarantee a starting time before 7AM. Remember, at this time, you can expect a fast round and Monday – Friday we have an early bird reduced green fee.

SEATTLE AMATEUR and WEST SEATTLE AMATEUR

West Seattle Golf Course once again hosted the prestigious Seattle Amateur Championship. The event attracts one of the best amateur fields in the Northwest. There were 162 golfers with handicaps under 3.5 competing for the title of “Seattle Amateur Champion”. After three of the most perfect days for golf we have crowned our 2009 Seattle Amateur Champion. With a tournament record score of 11 Under Par Jonathan Keane from Everett Country Club ran away from the field with an eight shot victory. He played flawlessly as he posted the day’s low score at each of the three golf courses including a 67 at West Seattle Golf Course on the final day. Keane putted flawlessly all week which carried over to his final round where he posted 8 birdies on the day.

We had a three way tie for second at 3-under par including George White (67 at West Seattle), Michael Haack (70) and Chris Bae (71). All of which played remarkably well but could not catch the leader. George White was especially hot through 10 holes posting six birdies and no bogeys. Chris Bae continues his stellar play in the Seattle Amateur posting his fifth top ten finish. Michael Haack surprised no one with his good play at the Seattle Amateur as he backed up his strong finish at the Washington State Open.

And our feel good story of the tournament revolves around a rule violation of Bobby Griffin from Wing Point. He called a 2-shot penalty on himself which demonstrates his tremendous integrity and respect for not only the game of golf but his fellow competitors.

West Seattle GC also hosted the West Seattle Amateur. The West Seattle Amateur is a 36 hole championship that was held on July 18th and 19th. We had a great turnout for the 20th playing of the event. The field boasted 168 players from 44 different golf clubs from around the Northwest. Congratulations to our overall champion Dave Farnam on a fine weekend of golf. He posted a tournament record 8-under par 136 to win the 20th anniversary of the West Seattle Amateur. This year’s victory is his 5th but more impressive is the fact he won the first as well...seems like Dave Farnam knows his way around West Seattle Golf Course.
