FINAL RESULTS - Ben Nelson Birdies Final Hole to Win the 2011 Seattle Amateur Championship

The record setting players in day 3 of the Seattle Amateur Championship did not disappoint the crowd as the battle for the best amateur in the City went down to the 18th hole.

2011 Final Results and Winnings

Ben Nelson emerged victorious with a 3 day total of 208. Ben's 5 under par performance for the tournament was good enough to hold off 4 other players that tied for 2nd place in the 77th playing of the Seattle Amateur. On Hole 18, trailing by one stroke, Ben's approach shot landed just six feet from the pin. His birdie putt would be the deciding factor in the competition and immortalizes his place in history along with notable past champions Jim McClean, Bill Sanders and Seattle Amateur legend Dave Farnam.

Second place finishers that contributed to this epic event include Reid Martin – 2011 Oregon Open Champion, Sandy Vaughn who lipped out a lengthy birdie putt on Hole 18 to miss a playoff for first place, Jon Pecham – who fired a 4 under par 68, and Matt Epstein who was also the tournament runner up in 2010.

A special thanks to West Seattle golf course superintendent John Price and to all of the players, fans, and staff for another successful event.

Note: Players – please post your own scores for the tournament. Your help is appreciated.

DAY 2 RESULTS - Low Scoring Continues at the 2011 Seattle Amateur Championship

This year's field of 165 players with handicaps less than 3.5 set the all-time record for lowest cut score in the history of the 77th playing of the Seattle Amateur. Fifty-five players shooting 147 or better will play tomorrow at West Seattle GC for the right to be crowned 'Seattle Amateur Champion'.

The field is tightly bunched as we have five players within one shot of the lead. Leading the field at 5-under par are Jed Dalton and Tyler Salsbury. There is a pack of three golfers one shot behind the leaders that include Ben Nelson, Sandy Vaughan and 2011 Oregon Open Champion Reid Martin.

Larry Glasser, Superintendent at Jefferson Park, had the course in incredible shape and received rave reviews from all the players about the condition and speed of the greens.

Come out to West Seattle GC on Sunday and see the best players in the Northwest compete for the championship. The leaders will tee off at 9am.

DAY 1 RESULTS - Record Scoring Day at the Seattle Amateur Championship

Jackson Park Golf Course (6241 Yard Par 71) hosted the first round of the 2011 Seattle Amateur Championship – this three day event moves to Jefferson Park tomorrow and the best 54 scores out of the field of 165 will play at West Seattle Golf Course on Sunday for the coveted title of 'Seattle Amateur Champion"

Sandy Vaughan sets the Modern Competitive Course Record at Jackson Park today by shooting a 7-under par 64! The Western Washington University Senior included eight birdies in his record round.

Broc Johnson and Tyler Salsbury both find themselves two shots back with nice rounds of 66. Jackson Park's own Jed Dalton used his local knowledge firing a 4- under par 67.

The 165 person field with a maximum handicap of 3.5 showed why they are the best players in the northwest recoding 22 scores under par.

Daniel Nelson from Glen Acres had a hole-in-one on the Par 3 Hole #2 that helped him to a 68.

Big kudos goes out to Bob Maddox and his maintenance staff who presented the course beautifully. His pride in the course really showed today.
