Conditions of Competition

Welcome to the 76th playing of the Seattle Amateur Championship. Good luck to you all, as you are competing in one of the strongest amateur fields in the state. Our field is especially strong this year with 100 players with indexes under 1.9. At the completion of the event, one player will have earned the prestigious title of ‘2010 Seattle Amateur Champion’. If you have any questions regarding this tournament, please feel free to talk to one of the Tournament Committee Members.

Tournament Committee:

  • Colin Gants PGA Head Professional West Seattle GC
  • Peter Guzzo PGA Head Professional Jackson Park GC
  • Paul Lavin PGA Head Professional Jefferson Park GC
  • Jimmy Sprague, Interbay Golf Center

Conditions of the Competition:

The Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event, with a 36-hole cut to the low 54 and ties. The USGA Rules of Golf shall govern all play. All decisions made by the Tournament Committee concerning the competition are final. In addition, the following rules are in effect:

  • Summer Rules are in effect.
  • Blue Tee markers are in use for the tournament. Yardage on the scorecard is measured from the Blue Tee Monuments. (Black at West Seattle GC)
  • In the event of a tie for the Championship, the winner will be determined in a sudden death playoff beginning at hole #18, then hole #17, repeating this sequence until a champion emerges.
  • The "One Ball Rule" is NOT in effect
  • DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES – we WILL BE using the local rule that allows players to use GPS, Laser or any other artificial form of distance ONLY measuring devices.
  • Automotive transportation by competitors, caddies and spectators is prohibited for this event.
  • Embedded Ball – Relief under Rule 25-2 is expanded to "through the green".
  • Late to the Tee – The note under Rule 6-3 will be used as an optional condition as prescribed.
  • Times for Saturday July 3rd will be available at www.premiergc.com/amateur.php or by calling the West Seattle Golf Course at 206-935-5187 between 8 pm and 9:15 pm Thursday evening.
  • “When two or more rounds of a stroke-play competition are to be played over consecutive days, a competitor must not practice between those rounds on any competition course remaining to be played.” – USGA Rules of Golf, rule 7-1b
  • Jackson Park now includes many "environmentally sensitive areas". Please carefully read Appendix I, Part B, Section 1.
  • You must return your scorecard to the scoring area immediately following your round.
  • Suspension of play – When play is suspended for a dangerous situation, competitors shall discontinue play immediately and shall not thereafter resume until the Committee has ordered resumption of play. PENALTY FOR BREACH: Disqualification. Note: Suspension for a dangerous situation is signaled by a long continuous blast. Resumption is signaled by two consecutive blasts.
  • Dress Code – All players and caddies shall wear appropriate golf attire at all times during tournament rounds. Neat and clean slacks, Bermudas, or walking shorts (mid thigh in length) and golf shirts with collars are appropriate. No cutoffs, T-shirts, jeans or colored denim are allowed. Shoes must be worn at all times. Failure to adhere to this dress code will result in disqualification.
